DonutSMP Economy Guide: Currencies, Trading & How the Market Works
DonutSMP is one of the largest Minecraft survival servers in the world, with over 50,000 stable online players at peak. With that many people trading, the economy is complex — but once you understand its core systems, every other money-making strategy clicks into place.
The Two Currencies
DonutSMP runs on two currencies:
| Currency | Primary use | How to earn |
|---|---|---|
| Money (coins) | Buy/sell items on AH and orders, shop | Farming, trading, flipping |
| Shards | Buy spawners and crate keys | 1/min AFK in the AFK zone · 10 per player kill |
Shards can only be used for spawners and crate keys — they are not interchangeable with coins. Shard boosters (found in amethyst crates) give 4× shard gain for 24 hours, making them valuable during PvP sessions or long AFK grinds.
The Three Trading Systems
There are three ways to move items in the DonutSMP economy:
| System | Command | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Auction House | /ah | Individual listings, rare items, enchanted gear |
| Orders | /orders | Bulk buying/selling, farm output, commodities |
| Server Shop | /sell | Fast liquidation — lowest prices but instant |
Auction House (/ah)
The AH lets any player list items with a custom price. To sell: hold the item and type /ah sell [price]. To browse: type /ah [item name]. The AH has a 25-item listing cap per player — a key constraint for high-volume traders.
Orders (/orders)
Orders is an automated bulk-buy system. A buyer places a "buy order" (offering to pay X coins per unit of an item). Sellers then fulfil those orders by typing /orders and selling directly. Prices on orders are generally lower than the AH, but the advantage for sellers is instant, frictionless sales without waiting for a buyer to click your AH listing.
For farm output — kelp, fungus, pink petals — the orders system is almost always the fastest and easiest way to convert produce into coins.
Server Shop (/sell)
The /sell command sells items directly to the server at a fixed rate. It is the least profitable option but useful when order books are thin and you need liquidity fast.
Inflation on DonutSMP
DonutSMP has a high inflation rate driven by its growing player base and unlimited demand for rare items like elytra, netherite, and spawners. This means:
- Item prices in coins trend upward over time
- Holding raw coins long-term loses purchasing power
- Storing wealth in stable items (netherite ingots, spawners) is safer than sitting on coins

High-Value Items to Know
| Item | Approximate price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Elytra | 250M – 320M coins | Most valuable item on server; used to find stashes |
| Netherite Ingot | ~3.4M – 3.8M coins | Constant demand; good long-term hold |
| Netherite Block | ~35M coins | 9× ingots; efficient storage of wealth |
| Piglin Head | 2M – 4M coins | Stackable; good mob-head farm output |
| Spawner | Purchased with shards | Passive income; shard-economy item |
